Abstract:

“Lorentz, Fitzgerald and Einstein's Transformations of the Special Theory of Relativity (STR), are responsible for most of the controversy and confusion surrounding the changes that affect the physical units of measure when a frame is at a state of relative motion. It is intended in this paper to clarify some aspects of the involved problems by discussing the various alternative possibilities that can be caused by real physical changes in the characteristics of matter as well as the behaviour and accuracy of clocks and measuring rods when set in relative motion. The potential rest energy of a body could thus be expressed in terms of mass, frequency and wavelength of radiation: E=m(fλ)^2. It is further suggested that the duration of a clock's tick once referenced to any preferred frame (e.g Earth), can be taken through synchronization as a “universal” reference unit for common duration in order for our physical calculations to be consistent on co-moving inertial relative frames. Only the remaining parameters of length and mass which are more difficult to replicate, remain variable or else can be transformed. More logic and common sense reasoning is relied upon here than concealing the real physical issues with the elegance of geometrical and mathematical covers or that of introducing strange concepts such as unexplained time dilation and length contraction to resolve the issue.”
